COURSE DATES
Spring Cohort: May 15 — June 20, 2026. Weekend intensives and alternate Friday woodland sessions.
AVAILABLE
TRAINING DURATION
180 Mandatory hours. Includes 120 field-based training hours and 60 hours of professional portfolio development and independent study.
LOCATION
The Old Growth Sanctuary & Local Forest Reserves. Base camp situated at the Sherwood Woodland Education Center.
PREREQUISITES
Minimum of 2 years experience working with youth groups or equivalent in outdoor education. Standard Level 3 First Aid Certification required by course end.

Graduates receive a Level 3 Forest School Leader certification, recognized globally as the gold standard for outdoor education. This qualification enables you to lead your own sessions and design comprehensive forest curricula.
Are there any prerequisites for enrolling in the training?
Enthusiasm for nature and working with children is essential. While a background in education or outdoor leadership is beneficial, we welcome career-changers and community leaders. All candidates must complete a standard background check.
How long does the teacher training course take to complete?
The core training consists of a 6-month journey, blending intensive woodland-based practical blocks with remote study and portfolio development. This ensures you have time to implement learnings in your own environment.
Where do the practical woodland sessions take place?
Practical sessions are held in our certified woodland training sites across local forest reserves. These areas offer diverse flora and fauna, perfect for mastering tool work, fire lighting, and ecological observation.
